Emergency School Closures

In cases where the school needs to close without giving prior notice to stakeholders (e.g. adverse weather conditions), as soon as the decision is made regarding any closure the school website will be updated, a text message sent to parents/carers and the school will contact Heart FM to ask them to announce the closure.

Domestic Abuse Alerts

Each school receives Domestic Abuse Alerts from the Police via BCP Children’s services.  The alerts do not contain details of the incident, just that an incident has occurred. The details of the incident will only be shared with the school, if there are already concerns regarding the welfare of the child. Further details are available from the Pan Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership – BCP Safeguarding in Education, Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Procedures Guidelines.

On receipt of an alert, the school DSL will consider information already known regarding the child/family, and where necessary contact MASH to talk about appropriate support. The school may also contact MASH to discuss how the school can best support the child/children and their family. The school will only acknowledge the incident with a parent or child, if further information has been sought from the MASH team, and only when it is thought that discussion will promote the welfare of the pupil.

The Federation works closely with BCP Children’s services to ensure that children who are victims and/or witnesses of Domestic Abuse are supported the best way possible by our own Pastoral Care Workers, but also with the support of Outreach Workers from Housing and the Women’s Refuge and, where appropriate, access the Toolkit Recovery Intervention.
